BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (March 6, 2002) Due to the rapid expansion of the Pro ATV class at Big River Sand Drags a new class is being added for the 2002 racing season.

During a meeting of the track's committee persons, the Super Pro class was added to the tracks racing program. There were several reasons for the new class with one of the reasons explained for the new class was possible "cool down" time needed for some of the bikes running in this division. There will be no "cool down" time for competitors in the Pro ATV class. It is possible for riders to compete in both the Pro ATV and the Super Pro classes, however an additional entry fee would have to be paid. To qualify for the Super Pro class a rider must post a 5.0 time or better on the 300-foot sand track. Possibly one of the biggest additions to the facility this season will be actual restrooms are being constructed. For years "portapotties" have been the item of choice for various reasons, but plans are for two new restrooms to be constructed for the 2002 season.

Another one of the improvements at the facility this season will be a tremendous new PA system that will allow competitors to hear what is going on despite the roar of engines on the track and in the pit area.

The Missouri Sand Racing Association (MSRA) will hold a pair of "work days" at Big River Sand Drags on March 23-24th to install the new PA system and work on other items.

The 2002 racing season will get underway at Big River on Saturday, April 6th (at noon) with Play Day. Racers can come that day and get in as much practice as they wish. MSRA dues will not have to be paid that day, however a $25 fee will be charged for the unlimited practice. The 2002 season will officially begin on Saturday, April 20th. Gates will open at 3 p.m. with time trials beginning at 5 and racing at 7. This season registration will close for all classes at 6 p.m.
