CAYUGA, ONTARIO (September 8, 2007) -- During qualifying at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario Carl Spiering ran his career best elapsed time and speed in the final round of qualifying at the Sixth Annual Canadian Nationals Saturday night.

DSA_8197.JPG Spiering posted a 6.008-second 237.63 mph pass in the strong Pro Modified class field, which placed him third for the eliminations.

"The track was phenomenal," said Spiering after his pass. "Many thanks go to the IHRA and the Cayuga track crew. They all are to be complimented on a stellar track."

Three Torco's CompetitionPlus.com Pro Modified category teams ran six-second flat passes in the final round of qualifying in the IHRA Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series.

Current IHRA Pro Modified points leader Scott Cannon paced the 16-car field with a 6.001-second, 238.89 mph, followed by Mike Janis of New York in second with a 6.003-second 241.32 mph, and Spiering with a 6.008-second, 237.63 mph, separating the top three drivers by only seven one thousands of a second.

"We struggled a bit during mid-season, but this was a special night in front of our hometown fans and the largest contingent of Eaton customers, distributors, and employees ever to witness one of these events," added the 42-year old driver from Jordan Station, Ontario.

"These cars are amazing, one little wiggle at half track kept us out of both number one spot and the five-second zone," said Spiering. "Our ERD power plant was making serious horse power tonight in the Eaton Road Warrior."

Spiering's Eaton Pro Modified Supercharged 1967 Chevrolet Camaro will face Mike Castellana from Westbury New York in his 2007 Mustang in the first round of final eliminations Sunday.

Carl's daughter, Lisa also added to the excitement surrounding the event, debuting her new dragster and competing in her first IHRA National Event in the Top ET category.
