Goodguys Announce 2006 Event Schedule
Pleasanton, CA -- The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, the largest rod & custom association in the world will stage 25 events in 2006, the largest lineup of events ever produced in company history. The ambitious lineup features 17 "National" events, 5 vintage drag races and 3 "Get-Together's" at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds.
With the exception of the 20th West Coast Nationals, scheduled for August 25-27 in Pleasanton, all 2006 Goodguys National events welcome rods, customs, classics, trucks, muscle cars and street machines through 1972 vintage. The West Coast Nationals retains its traditional status of welcoming rods, customs & classics through 1954 vintage.
A brand new event, the 1st Nashville Nationals, will be staged June 23-25 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Tennessee Titans Stadium marking the first time Goodguys have ever produced an event in The "Volunteer" state. Several milestone events are on the docket as well. The Heartland Nationals, scheduled for June 30-July 1 & 2 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds marks the 15th year of the event and the East Coast Nationals, scheduled for September 15-17 at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, New York turns 15 years old as well. The West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton is the "old man" of the bunch and celebrates its 20th anniversary next year.
The 8th Colorado Nationals, formerly held at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado Springs moves locations and dates following the sale of the PPIR facility. The event will now be held June 2-4 at the Larimer County Fairgrounds -- a spacious outdoor venue in Loveland, Colorado -- just minutes north of Denver.
Other date shuffles include the 5th Midwestern Nationals in Kansas City which will now be held September 1-3 during the Labor Day holiday weekend. Three vintage drag race series dates have also been changed including the 9th Pomona Nitro Nationals at Pomona Raceway (new date May 5-7), the 2nd Northwest Nostalgia Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington (new date -- May 26-28 -- Memorial Day Weekend) and the 18th Sonoma Nitro Nationals at Infineon Raceway will now be held June 30-July 1 & 2 (Independence Day Weekend) -- marking the first time the event will be staged as a three-day happening.
"We're really excited with the new event calendar," said Goodguys President Gary Meadors. "We have something for everyone -- that's for sure, and with all the events except for the 20th West Coast Nationals being opened up through 1972 vintage -- I would expect for the car counts to really increase which is good news for everyone! We're looking forward to a great 2006 season."
