JORDAN STATION, ONTARIO (July 17, 2008) -- When Carl Spiering rolls into the Grand Bend Motorplex this weekend for the Ninth Annual IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals, he will be rolling in on a high note.
Canadian Nationals The driver of the Eaton Cutler-Hammer 1963 Corvette Pro Modified recently won the Pro Modified title at previous round of IHRA drag racing competition in Edmonton, Alberta and he said the team and the car are ready for another victory.
"Our Edmonton win was just great," said Spiering, who runs a limited schedule in IHRA racing. "We have our ERD Engine program in great shape, and the new Bruno's Automotive BRT Converter Drive has been very successful."
Spiering has been racing since 1991, and been competing in the popular Pro Modified class for 10 years. Previous to his Edmonton win, he went to the final round at the Canadian Nationals at Cayuga Dragway last year. In the 2007 Grand Bend event a parts failure kept the team out of contention.
Now with a proven race car, Spiering realizes the chances of victory at Grand Bend are more dependent on his driving, especially in a class loaded with depth in cars and drivers.
"We've got the equipment," he said about the team's chances this weekend. "I'm going to be on my game plan and drive my best. We're going to make some laps and put this hot rod back in the winner's circle."
The IHRA Ninth Annual MOPAR Canadian Nationals is scheduled for July 18-20 at the Grand Bend Motorplex.
