Two races and a grid penalty twice due to minor issues in which you were not at fault. How do you cope with that? Of course its upsetting to lose good grid positions, but it doesnt do you any good to work yourself into a state of frustration. I tackled the races at Hockenheim, and especially the one at Oschersleben, with the knowledge and awareness of having a fast car and of making the best of it. At Oschersleben, I advanced from last to sixth place. That says a lot about our performance potential this year.
Did a certain against-all-odds motivation give you an extra boost? After all, you even posted the fastest race lap. There was certainly a bit of that. But I was fast throughout the weekend at Oschersleben, so I just continued what Id started in free practice and qualifying. In addition, I received an incredible amount of encouragement by my team Abt Sportsline and by Audi Sport. That pushed me as well.
Champion Mike Rockenfeller captured the top of the standings at Oschersleben. Can you still become a dangerous rival for him? We've just had two of ten races. So nothings been decided yet. And I think it was obvious that Ive got the speed to be in contention at the very front. Were only going to know the ultimate result after the finale at Hockenheim. All I can say is: I really enjoy competing with the team and the car in the DTM at the moment.
The next stop is Budapest... Im looking forward to it. After the tests there, Im assuming that well again be able to deliver a strong performance. Itll no doubt be a hot race also due to the summer temperatures we can expect. Budapest is a track with a lot of corners, which no doubt suits the performance of our Audi.
