Timo Bernhard honors female athletes

Le Mans winner presents awards to female athletes from Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt, April 3, 2011 - The local newspaper, the "Ingolstddter Anzeiger," had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest. At the "night of sport" Timo Bernhard presented awards to three successful female athletes. The spotlight last week, though, was not only on Audi's Le Mans winner. Audi "factory" drivers were also popular interview partners during the activities surrounding the market launch of the Audi A6.

Prizes from the Le Mans winner: Timo Bernhard attended the "night of sport" hosted by the Ingolstddter Anzeiger last Thursday and presented the awards to the winners of the 2010 athletes voting, Stefanie Mirlach, Corina Pape and Berit Wiacker.

Prominent guest in Berlin: DTM racer Timo Scheider was present at the market launch of the new Audi A6 for a whole day. The guests in attendance at the Audi Center Berlin Lichtenberg on Saturday were thrilled about the personal contact with the champion.

In close touch with the three-time Le Mans winner: Audi's customers in Italy had the chance to experience an Audi "factory" driver as well. Dindo Capello presented the new Audi A6 at his own company on Thursday. The Italian has a shareholding in the Audi Center Alessandria in Piemonte.

Sweating for fitness: Marcel Fdssler is using Italy as a place for a private sport vacation. The Audi "factory" driver flew to Sardinia on Sunday together with his wife Isabel. The Swiss will be spending a week there riding his bicycle as part of his personal fitness program.

Brief visit by the winner: Allan McNish paid a private visit to the Le Mans Series season opener at Le Castellet where he took a champagne shower a year ago. At that time the Scotsman was standing on the top of the podium for Audi together with Dindo Capello.

In the limelight: Filipe Albuquerque had his first meeting with the German press in Wiesbaden. At the press conference for the DTM presentation the Portuguese appeared alongside Mattias Ekstrvm last Monday.

Project title defense: Cisar Campanico started his racing season in the Portuguese GT Championship at Estoril. Last year's champion is sharing his Audi R8 LMS this year with Ni Amorim. The duo dominated in qualifying, won both races and took the lead of the championship.

An interview with ... Timo Scheider

Since last year all of us have been waiting for the new season to start.

Timo Scheider

The DTM presentation will be held in Wiesbaden on April 10. Are you getting excited?

Of course I am! We're finally going to race again. Since last year all of us have been waiting for the new season to start. And this event is really special. We've got time to talk to people, get to meet new faces, and fulfill the wishes of many fans for autographs.

Even though there's some time between now and the first race the roar of the engines and all the action in Wiesbaden should cause some goose bumps, wouldn't you agree?

Our demo laps are really special. It even takes some steering wheel acrobatics when we spin and put donuts on the asphalt on Wilhelmstrasse. We are presenting ourselves in a particularly prestigious part of town - on the boulevard in front of the "Kurhaus." Yet our sport perfectly fits with this old distinguished quarter and is well received there. Last year 110,000 people attended the start.

What would be your recommendation to the many fans of the DTM and Audi on location?

There will be plenty of attractions during the show. In addition to our race drives and pit stops on Sunday afternoon, there will also be a stunt show, music acts and car parades entertaining the fans. Here's a tip from me to the fans: Grab a poster or stop at the Audi collection truck to pick up a small item and have us drivers autograph it in between the demo drives, if you like. I look forward to seeing you!
