During a regular meeting, on 10th March, the DTM commission has resolved upon several rule changes for the forthcoming 2005 season and beyond.

The 2005 DTM regulations provides for a brand placement handicap weight. The winning brand of a race will have to contest the following event with a 10-kilo handicap weight; the second placed brand will keep the original basic weight, while the third and the fourth place brands may race with ten kilos less.

2004 cars will contest the 2005 season with a car with a weight of 1035 kilos. Unmodified 2005 spec DTM cars will be allowed to also contest the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Body versions (model improvement, new production appearance etc.) will be allowed.

The manufacturers involved in DTM undertake to provide independent teams with competitive cars at competitive prices, from 2006.

"Today's decisions will even increase the thrill and excitement of DTM," said DMSB president Winfried Urbinger. "Furthermore, they offer the opportunity of a broader involvement basis. For new manufacturers interested in entering DTM, the access has been made even more attractive. These decisions are trend-setting for top lever motor racing in Germany."

ITR e.V. Chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht added: "It's the goal of these decisions to carry on saving costs, to make touring car racing even more attractive, for our audience, and to ensure a DTM future that can be scheduled, for the forthcoming years. We want to offer teams a top class stage at low priced conditions and offer the international racing young guns an opportunity of making their next step on the motor racing ladder."
