LMS - Ferrari on pole at Le Castellet with the 458 Italia GT2
Maranello, 2 April – Practice and qualifying for the opening round of the thirteenth Le Mans Series, the championship which was born out of the famous Le Mans 24 Hours took place today at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit at Le Castellet. The day went very well for AF Corse, who took pole position for tomorrow’s race in the LM GT Pro class, with the 458 Italia GT2 entrusted to skills of Giancarlo Fisichella and Gimmi Bruni. The duo made the most of all the potential of the new sports car, which tomorrow starts ahead of the Enge-Muller Aston Martin and Bell-Walker im the JMW Motorsport 458 Italia GT2.
Fisichella was clearly delighted: “we are very happy, especially in the way the car went, proving that it lived up to our expectations. After yesterday’s free practice we made some set-up changes which improved the performance and made the car more precise. Tomorrow, we can expect a very exciting six hours of racing because of the large number of cars taking part and because of the high standards of the teams we are up against.” The six hour marathon gets underway at 12.00 tomorrow.
The other Ferrari run by the Italian AF Corse team qualified fourth in the hands of Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander, followed by the Hankook Team Farnbacher F430 GTC, driven by Farnbacher and Simonsen. In the LMGTE AM grid, third place went to the AF Corse F430 GTC crewed by the trio of Perazzini, Cioci and Lemeret, followed by the Ferrari of Kessel Racing (Broniszewski, Peter) and the CRS Racing F430 GTC crewed by Christodoulou, Hummel and Quaife.
