Schubert Motorsport made it two in a row in 12h Hungary

BUDAPEST (October 11th, 2009) The second Hungaroring 12 hours race has been run this weekend and was (once again) won by Schubert Motorsport from Germany. This time Jorg Viebahn, Stian Sorlie and Michael Outzen steered their BMW Z4 to a comfortable 8 lap lead over the Brokernet Silversting of local outfit Bovi Motorsport. Third was the Porsche 997 of Hubert Bergh Motorsport from Sweden, only 10sec behind Bovi Motorsport.

The second running of the Hungaroring 12 hours, organised by the Dutch promoter Creventic in cooperation with the Dutch DNRT, ran remarkably trouble-free for most of the competing teams. In the end there were only four retirements from a field of 30 cars which is extremely low for an endurance event. Rain was a cause for concern prior to the race but only really influenced proceedings at the very end. The last 7 minutes of the race were neutralised under the "Code 60" Purple Flag due to the heavy downpour.

Only two teams were fast enough to actually lead the race. First it was the the Porsche-powered Brokernet Silversting that built up a small lead in the hands of Hungarian ace Istvan Racz. But later in the race he and his teammates Atilla Barta, Gabor Talmacsi the well known MotoGP driver and teamowner Kalman Bodis would lose six laps in the pits with a fluid leakage and in the end had to settle for second place. As of the third hour of the race it was the Schubert BMW Z4 that lead comfortably. In third to fifth places it was a close call between three Porsche teams. Hubert Bergh Motorsport came out on top thanks to ultra-efficient pitstops with the Lechner Racing Team only a few seconds behind in fourth. Fifth place overall was a good result for the Lammertink Racing with Toyo Tires Porsche GT3 with Dutch WTCC ace Tom Coronel. The Jetalliance Porsche that was running on third place most of the time, retired after 223 laps with a broken gearbox.

Out of the different other classes the battle in the petrol class A2, up to 2000cc, was thrilling until the end between the Renault Clio of the Danish Entire Racing team and Lithuanian Ataka Team with their Honda Civic Type R. In the A3T category the Seat Leon Supercopa of the Hungarian Zengo Team managed to overcome early problems and just beat the Tschornia Motorsport Volkswagen Golf R line. The D2 Diesel Class showed fast lap times and last year's D2 winners Schubert 2 being beaten by a similar BMW 120D of local team BMW Hungary with Efficient Dynamics.

In the end there was this remarkable result of 26 out of 30 cars crossing the finish line at 10 PM at the F1-Hungaroring. Therefore the second edition of the 12hour race, which was supported by Michelin, can be put in the history books as a successful event.

Teamowner Kalman Bodis probably best summed up the general feeling: "As Hungarians we're proud with the international character of the event and the atmosphere was really good. So we are looking forward already to the 3rd edition 8-9 October 2010, where I expect at least 50 race cars on the track!"
