Alex and James Davison join David Calvert-Jones for Bathurst 12 Hour

LOS ANGELES - A 2013 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour field predominantly made up of Australia- and New Zealand-based teams will see one U.S.-based team make the voyage as Tujunga, Calif.-based Competition Motorsports will field a 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Australian cousins Alex and James Davison and Los Angeles-based Australian driver David "CJ" Calvert-Jones, in the "Ultimate Aussie Endurance Race" on February 8-10, 2013.

The once-around-the-clock event will be held on the 6.213-km (3.861-mile) Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales. The Competition Motorsports-prepped race car left Los Angeles three weeks ago and will run with support from Australia Porsche stalwart, McElrea Racing, in the B class. Competition Motorsports owner Bob Faieta will work alongside the McElrea Racing crew as team manager at Bathurst.

"Competition Motorsports is proud to be a part of the 'Australian Adventure,'" said Faieta. "We have prepped a top notch car and have three brilliant drivers ready to do battle Down Under.

We look forward to traveling to Australia and feel quite confident we will have a winning run. Hopefully this will be a great kick off to a possible American Le Mans Series season with CJ."

Alex Davison hails from Gold Coast, Australia, and has a lengthy history of racing Porsches, both in his native land and abroad. He won the 2004 Australian Porsche Carrera Cup championship and finished second in the 2006 and 2007 Australian Porsche Carrera Cup championships.

He also brings experience from the Australian V8 Supercar Championship and has raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the American Le Mans Series.

Alex finished third in the 2012 Australian Porsche Carrera Cup driving for McElrea Racing with a victory at the season-opening round in Sydney. He will drive in the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship for Ford Performance Racing customer team Charlie Schwerkolt Racing.

"With CJ, James and myself, I believe we have one of the strongest driver lineups in the field," Alex said. "James is a really talented driver who has not done a lot of racing in Australia, but we saw at the Australian GP in Carrera Cup last year that he can drive a Porsche very well and was on the pace quite quickly, so this is a great opportunity for him to get some experience at Bathurst and show what he can do.

"I am really looking forward to working with CJ and James. I think the consistency we have across our three drivers will be one of our strengths and I'm confident that if we can stay out of trouble, we will be able to achieve a great result."

Born in Melbourne, James Davison has done the bulk of his racing in North America. He finished second in the both the Star Mazda and Indy Lights championships, leading to a successful maiden IndyCar test with Andretti Autosport.

Davison has also made sporadic starts in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series since 2010 in both the Daytona Prototype and GT classes.

Both Alex and James are grandsons of four-time Australian Grand Prix winner Lex Davison. Alex's father, Richard Davison, was an Australia Formula 2 champion, while James' father, Jon Davison, won in Formula 5000.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with CJ and my cousin Alex," said James. "It will be the second time I will be teaming with Alex and the McElrea guys, having run the Carrera Cup race at the Australian Grand Prix last year.

CJ and I have a great lead driver in Alex to learn from about racing at Bathurst. I'm excited to get going and have a strong run with the entire Competition Motorsports team."

Calvert-Jones, who goes by "CJ," is also a native of Melbourne, Australia but moved to Los Angeles nine years ago to become a helicopter film and stunt pilot.

CJ finished second in the 2012 IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Gold Cup championship, earning a victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in July.

He made his American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón debut in the 2012 season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta driving the No. 24 Norton by Symantec Porsche in the GTC class.

"I am really excited to race back home in Australia in the Bathurst 12 Hour, and especially to do it with two of my extremely talented countrymen in Alex and James Davison," CJ said.

"I'm also thrilled to do another endurance race after getting my first taste of it last October in the Petit Le Mans. Like Petit, racing at Bathurst gets worldwide attention, and I'm optimistic that we'll have a good result."
