Another podium for Muhlner Motorsport

Schmitz, Engels and Fricke take third

Francorchamps / Nurburgring. The Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium based Muhlner Motorsport Team entered the second round of the German Endurance Championship, the 50th ADAC ACAS H&R Cup, with one of their three Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars - the other two cars didn't run as there were not enough suitable drivers available.

Wilfried Schmitz (Baesweiler), Marcel Engels (Willich) and Florian Fricke (Nienstadt) drove the 778 car to an excellent third place in the strong, both in numbers and quality, Porsche Cup class.

Starting from just 12th place, the team showed again that a well balanced package of accident free driving, good preparation, quick pit stops and good strategy often brings a better result than relying on top lap times which often bring the associated risk of accidents.

"I'm really pleased for our three drivers who in only their 5th race in a Porsche in the very competitive Porsche Cup Class have already notched up a podium" reported a satisfied Bernhard Muhlner.

Wilfried Schmitz: "After Marcel had his accident whilst leading by 20 seconds, we knew that we had the necessary speed to run at the front. Now we need to turn that into results. A place on the podium in only our 5th race is very satisfying."

Florian Fricke: "It is only my third time here with the car and with the accident last time meaning I didn't get to drive, this is effectively only my second full turn in the car since the season finale in October last year. With that in mind, I'm even more pleased with this great result."

Marcel Engels: "After having the accident at the last race, I've been a bit more conservative today and am not yet up to my normal speed. But our result today has shown that a balanced performance across the whole team is more important than absolute lap times. The Muhlner Team mechanics had a lot of work to do after the accident but they've done a great job - the car was perfect again."

"We hope that next time we'll capitalise on the good results of the first two races and have all three cars running next time. As the sporting success is important to us, we've always tried to concentrated on a balanced driver crew. That's the only way of achieving good results." Said team boss Renate-Carola Muhlner, looking forward to the next race of the German Endurance Championship on 10th May.
