Lechner Racing and James Watt Automotive early leaders in 12H of Hungary

HUNGARORING (October 9th, 2010) In bright sunshine, the third running of the 12H of Hungary, the 12-hour race for GT and touring cars and 24h specials, organised by Dutch agency, CREVENTIC, got underway as planned at exactly 10.00 h this morning. The James Watt Automotive-Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (Paul Daniels/Robert Bell/Darryl O'Young), that was fastest in qualifying yesterday, defended its lead with Bell behind the wheel at the rolling start, but the Lechner Racing-Audi R8 LMS (Philip Konig/Niki Mayr- Melnhof/Thomas Gruber/Walter Lechner jr), driven by Mayer-Melnhof took over first place while still on the opening lap. On lap 29, Rob Bell restored the original order again, swapping places with Mayr-Melnhof in the Audi. One hour into the race, the Porsche is still in the lead, but during the entire first 60 minutes, the Audi and the Porsche have never been more than half a second apart.

The first team to make a pit stop was the Intersport Racing crew (Kevin Clarke/Wayne Gibson), who came in with their BMW M3 after half an hour and are still in the pits 30 minutes later. For the rest, the first hour of the race did not bring about any noteworthy incidents, all the other 22 cars steadily racking up their laps. The best battle for the lead in class, apart from the duel between the Audi and the Porsche out in front of the field, probably was the competition between the VDS Racing Adventures-Ford Mustang (Van Der Straten/Close) and the Gmaxxx Racing-Corvette ("Ed Nicelife"/Boleslav Waszek/Arno Klasen), the Ford eventually coming out on top as the Corvette slightly dropped back later on.

The Lechner Racing team got off to a good start of raceday, posting the fastest time in the early-morning warm-up session (1:52.419 minutes), followed by the Bovi Motorsport-Brokernet Silversting and the Gmaxx Racing- Corvette.
