24 Hours of Spa Belgian racing press release

Francorchamps 29 Juillet 2007 -- No luck for Belgian Racing in the 24Hours of Spa. After a fabulous double stint of ex-formula 1 driver, Bas Leinders, at the start, the Gillet Vertigo .5 was in 19th position on the track. 18-year-old Sarah Bovy took over the wheel of the Belgian car and posted a nice first lap, but unfortunately it all went wrong in the third lap in the corner "de Fagnes" also known as the "Pif-Paf". The car spun off the track and hit the tire-wall hard. Sarah was able to get the car to the pits where the team started to work on the car in order to get it back on track as soon as possible.

Tony Gillet: " After looking at the data from the car, we can see that Sarah went into the corner a little faster then the previous lap and tried to put more power down. The car then oversteered and this resulted into the spin."

After more then two hours work Bas Leinders went back on track and posted two laps in the 2 min 30seconds bracket. Unfortunately due to the accident the powersteering was down and the engine started to run hot. Back in the pits the team had to put an extra 2 liters of water in the radiator but was not able to repair the powersteering.

Renaud Kuppens went on track anyway to try and continue the race. After a few laps there was an oil smell in the car and Renaud had to come back to the pits. This was the end of the race for the Gillet Vertigo .5.

Tony Gillet : "It is very unfortunate that we have to abandon the race. The car was very well prepared and I would like to thank the mechanics for the excellent work before and during the race. I feel very sorry for Sarah and I still believe she has a true potential. In all the testing and driving she did for us this was her only mistake unfortunately the timing was wrong."
