The Lost files

Latest picture on my screen saver 2012-12-25: Motorsport.com art director Eric Gilbert presents the photos that he actually uses as screen savers (and that he has actually shot, also). Enjoy!

24 Hours of the Nürburgring, 2012-05-17

What better way to spend Christmas time than making sure photos shot in the past year are properly archived, before the new racing season starts in just a few days. While doing just this, I realized that I had a bunch of files (a few hundreds!) from the last 24 Hours of the Nürburgring that had been left unprocessed and sitting on a hard drive for months (looks like I shot so much back in May that I lost tracks of a few things…) And since I had to try a few new things in the latest version of Lightroom (4.3.something…), I took the opportunity to put those lost photo files back in action.

Most of them were shot during Thursday's practice session, while I was working outside the famed Karussell curve. Among the many photos showing the cars making their way in this spectacular curve, this one immediately caught my attention and I thought it was worthy to be copied to my screensaver folder. It's a typical Karussell photo of the Vita4one Racing Team BMW Z4 GT3 going around in the banked section of the curve, trying to survive the constant contacts with the concrete blocks and making some impressive friction smoke (and noise :-) in the process.

Priceless and such a common vision at the Karussell that I sometimes wonder how the cars make it back alive after the race.
