Vaidyanathan will drive for renowned squad Carlin in both the championships, who will field three cars in EuroFormula Open, with the other two drivers yet to be announced.

“Testing in the BRDC F4 car has gone really well, and power wise it’s made the transition to the F3 car much easier,’’ Vaidyanathan said upon the announcement.

“I want to get as much experience as possible and completing both programmes with Carlin means I can combine both championships in the most efficient way possible.”

“It’s going to be an exciting season and I’m looking forward to official testing getting underway later this week," he added.

Last year, the Indian competed in the BRDC F4 finishing 12th, picking up three podiums and dovetailed his season competing in the MSA Formula championship.

Trevor Carlin, founder of the British team Carlin, said: “We’ve already completed a number of test days with Ameya as part of his BRDC F4 programme and what has become clearer than ever is his work ethic and drive to succeed.”

“Ameya is working very well with the team and we’ve already seen some big improvements in his driving, so it makes sense to give him as much race experience as possible.”

“EuroFormula Open offers a great package and fantastic circuits that drivers want to race on for the benefit of their future careers,’’ he added.

The lone pre-season test is scheduled for February 25-26 in Jerez with the season starting on April 23 in Estoril and will see eight rounds around Europe.
