October 2000, Suzuka: With the fall of the chequered flag at the Japanese Grand Prix, there was no stopping Michael Schumacher. The then 31-year-old was barely able to contain himself. With the victory in Suzuka, Schumi had become the Formula 1 world champion in 2000.

For the Italian Formula 1 team with such a great tradition, a 21-year losing streak came to an end. The last title Ferrari had won was through South African Jody Scheckter in 1979. Since then, the Maranello team and Schumacher had come close to winning but the title win eluded them on several occasions.

But on October 8, 2000, it all fell into place. Schumacher started from pole position but lost the lead to his title rival Mika Hakkinen in the McLaren-Mercedes. Only in the course of the pit stops did Schumacher and Ferrari make up places. At the end, Schumacher crossed the finish line 1.837s ahead of Hakkinen and became champion of the world.

It was the beginning of the modern Ferrari Era in F1. The combination of Schumacher and Ferrari was on the rise and they dominated the sport for years. After 2000, Schumacher also won the drivers' title in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. He broke practically every important Formula 1 record and went on to become the driver with the most number of titles.

Here are the pictures to Schumacher's title wins with Ferrari:

Why Mosley’s legacy amounts to far more than tabloid rumour

The newspapers, naturally, lingered over Max Mosley’s tainted family history and niche sexual practices. But this is to trivialise the legacy of a big beast of motor racing politics. Stuart Codling weighs the life of a man whose work for safety on both road and track has saved hundreds of thousands of lives, but whose penchant for cruelty remains problematic and polarising.

Why pragmatic Perez isn't fazed by no-nonsense Red Bull F1 culture

Sergio Perez has spent most of his career labouring in Formula 1’s midfield, wondering whether he’d ever get another shot at the big time. Red Bull has handed him that chance and, although life at the top is tough, the Baku winner is doing all the right things to get on terms with Max Verstappen, says BEN ANDERSON

The changes behind a 'feel-good' F1 result in Baku

OPINION: The Azerbaijan Grand Prix had elements that make Formula 1 really exciting – unpredictability and shock results. This resulted in heartbreak for several of the championship’s regular contenders and joy for others who rarely reach the ultimate limelight. The human cost to replacing Formula 1's cancelled rounds

OPINION: With the global pandemic still lingering, Singapore's grand prix has been cancelled for 2021, with more looking likely to follow. Although Formula 1 has TV deals and profits to chase, retaining a 23-race calendar could be most harmful to those who sacrifice the most for the championship.
