The world champion qualified third in the third-fastest car on single-lap pace then jumped Vettel at the start. He executed an undercut pass, with a Kubica assist, on Verstappen but didn't have the battery to hold him back. He also immediately lost the lead after gaining it under the first safety car, before a risky move led to a clash with Albon following the erroneous late pitstop.
