Red Bull latest F1 team to introduce T-wing

The Milton Keynes-based outfit has been working on an aggressive development push in a bid to help it close the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari at the front of the grid.

After it appeared to take a step forward at the Spanish Grand Prix, especially in qualifying, further modifications to it cars have been made in Monaco.

And one element that has stood out visually is the T-wing, with the team joining Renault as the last ones to run with the element.

Speaking about the changes made to the car since the Spanish GP, Max Verstappen reckoned there were grounds to feel optimistic, even though he did not get to feel the changes in race conditions after his first lap exit in Barcelona.

"I think it was a good step forward," said the Dutchman. "Of course I didn't do the race, so I don't know how it was, but I felt good all weekend at Barcelona. Then my race was finished after 700 metres.

"But I think it was a good step forward, but we have to wait and see. Even here it's difficult to say. We have to see afterwards how much further we went."

Repeat form

Red Bull had one of its most competitive weekends of the season in Monaco last year, with Daniel Ricciardo taking pole position and only losing the race after a pitstop problem.

Verstappen is not sure that his team can repeat that strong form this year though.

"I think we are not in the same position as last year, let's say that," he said. "It will be harder. But you never know. We always try to do our best and if you feel comfortable in the car, that's always a big plus as well around this track."

But Verstappen is sure that he will have a better weekend in personal terms – after crashing in qualifying and in the race last year.

"We'll try to stay out of the walls," he said. "I learned a lot from it, a lot of small things that can make an improvement in every aspect of the car and also myself. I feel good. That's the plus."
