The Maranello team has been vocal about its complaints over the current state of Formula One, with new team boss Maurizio Arrivabene saying last month what grand prix racing needed was a "revolution" if the sport wants to stop losing fans.

Ferrari is pushing for a major overhaul to the sport in 2017 after fan interest has declined in recent years.

On Tuesday, the team revealed two images of a spectacular concept car on its website, without revealing any other details about it.

"Would it be possible to come up with an F1 car which not only is technologically advanced, but also captivating to the eye and aggressive-looking?" said Ferrari on its website.

"And could this be made without having to overturn the current technical rules? At Ferrari, we believe so.

"Minimal changes give the car a look that is way different from what have been familiar with so far. Our challenge was to create something that was – to put it short – better looking. "

The move comes on the day when the Formula One Commission meets in Geneva to discuss radical rule changes in the sport, including bigger tyres and 1000bhp engines.
