Gallery: Michael Schumacher's F1 helmets

Michael Schumacher largely stuck to a red-coloured helmet during his Formula 1 career. We look back at all his lid designs - from his first season in 1991 to his last in 2012.

Mit sieben WM-Titeln und 91 Grand-Prix-Siegen ist Michael Schumacher der erfolgreichste Formel-1-Fahrer aller Zeiten. Und für viele ist er der Inbegriff eines Rennfahrers schlechthin. Von August 1991 bis November 2012 umfasste seine aktive Formel-1-Karriere rund 20 Jahre und über 300 Grands Prix.

1991: F1 debut with Jordan
Schumacher's first F1 lid had shades of black, red and gold, with wide patches of white colour. The top was blue.

In 1994 Schumacher used his classic helmet design, with red streaks added above the visor.

He went on to win his first title with the clothing brand.

Schumacher continued with the same helmet design in 1995, the year in which he won his second championship.

Despite a switch to Ferrari in 1996, Schumacher's helmet largely remained unchanged.

For the 1998 season finale, Schumacher's lid featured a chequered flag and a large chrome strip at the rear.

During the 2000 Monaco GP weekend, Schumacher switched to his famous all-red helmet.

Following the infamous 26/11 attacks, Ferrari turned up at their home race without any sponsorship logos on the car.

At the 2001 US GP, Schumacher sported the American flag on the back of his helmet.

During the 2002 Barcelona test, the Schumacher helmets ran unique design. One half of the helmet had Michael's choice of colours, while the other side had Ralf's shades.

Schumacher's mother passed away before the 2003 San Marino GP at Imola. Hence the sponsor lettering on his helmet were in black.

At the 2004 Italian GP, Schumacher surprised the Tifosis with a red, white and green helmet design.

At the final race of his first career in F1, Schumacher's helmet featured names of all races he'd won. Also seen was a Chinese dragon.

Schumacher tested for Ferrari in 2009 in an attempt to replace the injured Felipe Massa. However, that plan didn't go through because of Schumacher's own neck injury.

While testing a GP2 car in 2010, Schumacher continued with his famous red-liveried helmet. However, instead of Ferrari logos there was a Mercedes' three-pointed star at the front.
