Jaguar Racing today announces that it has signed Pedro de la Rosa as an additional test driver for the 2001 season.

The 29 -year old Spaniard from Barcelona has agreed a one -year testing contract and will race for the team in the future. Jaguar Racing Chief Executive and Team Principal Bobby Rahal commented:

"Pedro demons trated last season that he is a quick and able driver and his input will be invaluable as we develop our R2 Formula One car over the course of the coming season. By hiring Pedro, we are sending out a clear signal of our intention to develop Jaguar Racing i nto a championship challenging team in the future".

De la Rosa will join 20 -year old South African Tomas Scheckter who was appointed as Jaguar Racing's development driver in September 2000.

De la Rosa's early career progressed through karting and saloon car racing in Spain to achieve championship titles in both Formula Ford (Spanish Champion 1990) and Formula Renault (British and European Champion 1992). He then competed in the British Formula Three championship in 1993 and 1994 before leaving Europe to race in the Japanese Formula Three and Formula Nippon series (1995 and 1997 Champion respectively). He broke into Formula One with a test drive for Jordan in 1998 and raced for the Arrows team in 1999 (17 th position) and 2000 (15 th position).
