The Russian started the year with Red Bull Racing, but lost his seat to Max Verstappen ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, Kvyat sent back to Toro Rosso.
The first few races with the Faenza-based squad were difficult for Kvyat, before things got better after the summer break.
When asked what changed to turn his fortunes around, Kvyat said: "Many things. I had a good time off, just said 'give it your best' so you don't have to regret everything. I did my absolute best after the summer break.
"Of course, before the summer break I was coming to the track, driving, and nothing else. After the summer break I came back with 120 percent dedication, working to get the maximum out of the package I had and it was starting to pan out much better.
"There will always be a few tracks that suit us, like Singapore, but again I left everything on the track and the team could see it again.
"I was working hard again and it was enough," he added.
Despite uncertainty about his future following his demotion to Toro Rosso, Kvyat secured a contract extension and will again partner Carlos Sainz at the team next year.
The Russian driver admits knowing his future is safe was naturally a boost.
"It's a bit of a relief knowing where you're going to start. Staying with Toro Rosso next year is very good and we know each other well. Just have to keep up the hard work."
