Rosberg “had more” for Q3 after setting pole on used rubber

Rosberg’s Mercedes will start from pole after topping the crucial Q2 session, despite using his tyres from Q1 after losing a set of wets yesterday when he spun in FP3.

“For me it was still a compromise from the spin yesterday,” he reported. “I had a small flatspot, and it meant I had to drive with used tyres in Q2.

“New tyres was a better [option], so there was more to be had for me in qualifying three.” 

No weather worries

Rosberg says he will be going all-out for victory this afternoon, as he bids to keep his slim world championship hopes alive by outscoring teammate Lewis Hamilton, and feels confident whether conditions dry out or not.

“I want to win for sure really badly,” he said. “I have no idea [about the weather conditions] for the race, it was supposed to be drying out from now onwards, but it doesn't like it out there.

“I am feeling good in any conditions, and the car is great in any condition to full wet; inters or dries is fine by me.

“I felt comfortable in the car, but it is difficult out there with aquaplaning because when it happens, you really struggle to have control of car as it snaps suddenly without warning. It’s been challenging out there.”
