Schumacher fears crowd injury

Michael Schumacher is concerned that someone is going to get injured in F1 again - and it may be a spectator. "To have cars airborne I see as the most significant danger, not only for the driver but for spectators. If a car starts to be airborne it is very difficult to control and know which direction it's going to go in. One day it's going to go into the crowd. That is something the FIA has to get sorted out. We are paid to some degree to accept the risk but we also try to minimise that as well. But for the spectators it's a different matter. Every year we discuss this with the FIA and every year they're reluctant to do these changes."

Ferrari profits fall

Ferrari, part of the Fiat empire, saw it's profits fall in 1999. Profits were down 28.4% to 5.8m Euros (apx $5.8m). Ferrari explained that loses at it's subsidiary, Maserati, and a "heavier tax obligation" led to the situation. Turnover in the same period increased by nearly 23%, and made 47m Euros profit, but Maserati lost 23m Euros in the same period.
