Formula One Test Session
Wednesday 6th March 2001
Silverstone Grand Prox Circuit, England

Testing continued at Silverstone today as the teams worked on a variety of technical and aerodynamic tests. Williams and Renault continued with their test drivers Marc Gene and Fernando Alonso, and they were joined by Anthony Davidson driving for BAR. The session was overcast and cold.

Williams again ran the FW23 (last season's chassis) with this season's engine. Marc Gene completed three race-stints, of between 15 and 20 laps each, and lapped in the 1m 24s to 1m 27s range. Ultimately he completed more than a race distance, while working on engine development, and set the fastest time of the day at 1m 23.835s.

Renault continued their development programme and spent most of the day in the garage behind closed doors, only appearing for a few short runs later during the morning and afternoon sessions. They also ran last year's car again.

BAR also did many short runs during the session, working on a variety of different settings. The car had a minor technical problem in the morning but Davidson was able to return slowly to the pits. In the afternoon the team worked on aerodynamic tests and also did a couple of practice starts in the pitlane.

Testing continues tomorrow at Silverstone with the same teams and drivers scheduled to attend.
