The Spanish driver lost control of his Toro Rosso during Q1 after running over a puddle with the right-hand wheels.

He spun and crashed into the barriers, causing damage to the front end of the car.

With the race taking place just four hours after qualifying, Toro Rosso mechanics were seen working as fast as possible to repair the car.

When asked if the car could be fixed, Sainz said. "We will see, I hope so, I really hope so, because I want to give back the team all the effort and all the good pace we have had with a good race and I hope we can solve the car and go out in the race."

Sainz admitted the accident was his own fault, but admitted there was nothing he could do after aquaplanning off the track.

"It's disappointing. We had great pace all the weekend and so I arrived in that second lap, just aquaplaning in Turn 3, and once you aquaplane, you're a passenger and you cannot do anything, no?

"It's a shame that it was in the corner where the wall is so close to you and I could do nothing to avoid it."

Teammate Max Verstappen will start the race from eighth position.
