Jos Verstappen, who recently lost his race seat with Orange Arrows, has made it clear he is not happy with the way they have acted. Verstappen signed a contract in June last year to drive for the team this season but Arrows have since replaced him with Heinz Harald Frentzen.

"In June last year they renewed my contract for 2002," Verstappen said. "With that announcement I was off the market for any other teams so they don't come with any offers. That didn't bother us because we were very pleased the Arrows technical and financial package. We thought it was fine. When you get tossed out only weeks before the season starts you can't negotiate anymore."

The Dutchman said that he heard the news of Frentzen being hired from his manager Huub Rothengatter rather than Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw -- Walkinshaw did speak to him later and shortly afterwards Verstappen's lawyers received a fax from the team confirming the contract was terminated.

"We were, like Huub said, shocked by the news." Verstappen remarked." (Tom) Walkinshaw didn't call me until 11am. It was a short conversation. The only thing he said was that they had chosen Frentzen, without any explanation."

It's possible Verstappen may now take legal action against Arrows to recover what he believes the team owe him.
