France GP Review | RedBull wins | Mercedes crisis

Verstappen put some of his own driving precision and tactical cleverness in, to manage a quite dangerous tyres consumption. The RB16B set-up was excellent especially considering the new rules concerning the wings bending and the tyre pressures which have substituted variables that the Red Bull engineers were able to manage in a perfect way.

The problem which caught Mercedes, Hamilton and even more Bottas by surprise, is the unexpected tyre degradation favoured by the rain that washed the tarmac and mixed up race plans and strategies. Not a technical crisis but simply incorrect strategic choices deprived Mercedes of possible success.

Now Ferrari needs to understand the problem and solve it before the Austrian GP. A few days to analyze France's problems and react with a more effective car set-up on the tires.

The Budget cap and a competitive Red Bull have been enough to drive Mercedes up the wall. Used to setting its terms and dominating without contest from the start of the hybrid era, the German Army, now seeing itself very closely hunted, has imploded.

In summertime the higher temperatures require an upgrade on the engine cooling systems in order to ensure the maximum values of efficiency, power and most of all reliability.
