Another win for Carbone!

Ultimate Signature driver Fabio Carbone has racked up his third win of this year's World Series by Renault with a stunning display in race one at the Portuguese Estoril circuit.

The Brazilian has also put Ultimate Signature is also in a strong position to challenge for the teams' championship.

The fast and technical Estoril circuit was formerly the home of the Portuguese Grand Prix for several years, and it provided all the World Series by Renault drivers with a formidable challenge. As the track contains quite a wide variety of speeds and corners -- not to mention some notorious crosswinds -- it is vital for teams to find a flexible set-up that can cope with all the different conditions.

Ultimate Signature clearly got it exactly right, as Carbone comfortably went through to the superpole session earlier on Saturday, which sees the fastest drivers go head-to-head for pole position. Having secured fourth place on the grid for race one he got off to an excellent start, passing two cars in the early stages. He then got past Marcos Martinez on lap nine out of 27, before driving to an assured victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

"It was a fantastic race from start to finish," said the Brazilian. "I had an excellent getaway to move up to second quite quickly, and I could see that I was quicker than the leader, Martinez. I was absolutely determined to get past him, so I tried various moves and finally it worked. From then on, it was just a question of making no mistakes until the finish. Of course, any win like this is always a team effort, so I'd like to thank everyone at Ultimate Signature for doing their usual great job to make this victory possible."

Unfortunately Fabio was not able to repeat that performance during race two as another competitor drove into him on the opening lap. The Brazilian had started from fifth on the grid, but was forced to drive slowly back to the pits and retire with rear suspension damage.

"It was unfortunate, but just one of those things," concluded Fabio. "I think the main thing is that we underlined just how much pace there is in the car and the team. I'm confident that I had the capability to do well in race two as well but it was not to be."

Carbone retains second in the title race with just one more race meeting to go, but the drivers' title has already been won. By contrast there is still everything to play for in the teams' standings, where Ultimate Signature is currently third with two races remaining.
