"TEAM AUSSIE F3" FINISHES 21st IN NURBURGRING ENDURO

Formula 3 Australian Drivers' Championship leader Tim Macrow finished an excellent 21st outright in the 41st ADAC Barbarossapreis race at the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit at the weekend.

Macrow joined former Aussie Formula 3 race winner Barton Mawer and PHR Scuderia team owner / driver Maher Algadri behind the wheel of a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car at the famous circuit for the four hour event, the 8th round of the German VLN Endurance series that is based around the Nurburgring 24 hour race.

After qualifying a commendable 53rd (out of 184 entrants), the trio raced well and ended the race in 21st place, completing 26 laps of the 22km circuit. To view the full results, click here

The race was won by the Porsche GT3 of Chris Mamerow and Dirk Werner, who finished ahead of a similar Porsche and a works Audi R8 LMS.

It was Macrow's first visit to the Nurburgring and after spending plenty of time learning the circuit via YouTube onboard videos, the Melbournian said that the real thing was in a different league to anything he had experienced.

"The track is the most amazing thing," he said.

"It's the best thing I've ever done - my stint went for 9 laps, so I spent about 90 minutes in the car and I just didn't want to get out."

Algadri started the race, with Macrow anchoring the middle stint and Mawer bringing the car to the line. The trio improved their cars best lap time - compared to their qualifying best - by more than 20 seconds throughout the duration of the race.

The participation of Macrow, Mawer and Algadri in the German Enduro this weekend continues a busy stretch for stars from within the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship.

Joey Foster - currently second in the championship - recently posted a strong top four result in the most recent round of the German F3 championship, whilst National Class champion Tom Tweedie confirmed today that he will test for Team West-Tec at Rockingham, in the UK, next week.

Macrow will now return to Australia to continue his preparation for the final round of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers' Championship, to be held at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne in late November this year.
