Hunt for NEC podium at RTL GP Masters of Formula 3
The third round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup is about to start at Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands. The series will join the number one event for formula cars coming weekend (4-6 of June) during the RTL GP Masters of Formula 3.
It is not only important for the Formula 3 contestants to win this weekend, which still forms one of the annual high lights for everyone involved with single seater racing. A driv9er who performs well in Formula Renault, may open doors for 2011. Living example is of course Valtteri Bottas, NEC champion 2008, winner of the Masters in 2009 and now contracted by Williams F1 as a test driver.
The organisation of the series is proud to have 20 Formula Renault 2 litre cars for this weekend. A full grid, especially considering some of the NEC participants are in the Czech Republic, competing in the EUROCUP during the third edition of World Series by Renault. In addition to the drivers registered for the whole season, NEC welcomes back Robert Siska and Kelvin Snoeks as guest drivers for the weekend.
The programme shows an overload of motorsport for every kind of petrol head. Many spectators will be enjoying the Red Bull kart fight and Sebastian Vettel's demonstration of the Formula One car programmed for Sunday the sixth at 15.00. Regular visitors of Zandvoort will be served with a serious amount of national autosport as well, including the Dutch GT4, Tourwagen Diesel Cup and the Dutch Supercar Challenge.
Current leader in the standings for the Northern European Cup is Belgian driver Ludwig Ghidi and his Danish team KEO Racing. He has a 33-point lead to number two, Danish Mikkel Mac, but everything is possible when there are 30 points to gain each race. Van Amersfoort Racing with Jeroen Mul and Liroy Stuart, KTR with Rogier de Wit, KEO racing and Kelvin Snoeks and last but not least Frank Suntjens (Speedlover) have the home advantage and will to their utmost to perform well at this great event.
The RTL GP Masters of Formula 3 starts on Friday for the 200 bhp single seaters with a 30 minute qualifying session at 11.35 AM. The first NEC race of the weekend, meaning race 5 for the championship is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 14.45 PM. Directly after the Formula One demonstration on Sunday, it is NEC's turn to finish its event with race number 2 at 16.00 PM.
