MacLeod to challenge Barba's leadership in Brands Hatch

The Briton will try to use track knowledge to his advantage

The European F3 Open, one of the most competitive F3 series in the continent, resumes after the summer break by visiting the legendary circuit of Brands Hatch, one of temples of single-seater racing in Europe. This will be the fifth event of the season and the third visit to great European circuits after spa and Magny-Cours.

There is no doubt that the title battle will live in Kent one of its key moments, as Callum MacLeod is currently the main challenger to the standings leader Marco Barba (Black Motorsport), who has never raced in Brands so far. The young Briton of Motul Team West-Tec will definitely want to shine on his home event and to use the opportunity to reduce the gap with respect to Barba. At the moment, only 13 points separate the two main contenders (83 vs 70) and both drivers are tied with 4 wins each.

The fight is also very close for third position, as four drivers are within three points: Fernandez (Hache), Fumanelli (RP), Abadin (Drivex) and Ceccon (RP), while in the standings of the European F3 Cup (which is open to drivers competing with the F306 chassis), young Spanish revelation Aaron Filgueira (Drivex) has a somehow clearer advantage on Villalba (Hache) and Jammal (Black). All of these drivers are expected to be among the front-runners in Brands, together with the two young drivers of EmiliodeVillota Motorsport, Sistos and Monje.

The 17-car strong entry that will go on track in Brands Hatch includes a couple of interesting novelties: Italy's Matteo Beretta will be making his debut at the wheel of the fourth car of RP Motorsport, while British team West-Tec will enter a third car for Ho-Hon Keong, a promising young driver from Macau (pictured).

Exceptionally, the two races will take place on Sunday. The Brands Hatch races will count on the usual TV coverage, which includes live broadcasting in Spain (Sportmania and Intereconomia TV and some regional networks), Italy (Nuvolari) and the Middle East (OTV), and additional delayed summaries in 50 European countries (Motors TV), Spain (Canal + Deportes) and Latin America (Fox Sports).
