Marco Barba, win and strengthened lead
Marco Barba (Cedars) won the second Magny-Cours race after Frenchman Emmanuel Piget (GTemocion), who had crossed the line in first position, was penalised after the race (for undertaking under yellow) losing a maiden win at home in the European F3 Open. In a lively, closely-fought and incident-packed race, Marco Barba, who had started from the back of the grid, strengthened his leadership in the championship, as his main rival, Callum Macleod had to retire when he was leading. Biagio Bulnes (RP) was third, while Antoine Beltoise (Top F3) completed the French success by taking the win among Cup in his first participation in the F3 Open.
For Race 2, Ceccon and MacLeod are in row 1, ahead of Bulnes and Piget. At the start, Macleod is faster ahead of Ceccon, who tries to close him, while Fernandez passes third during the first lap Fumanelli (who has jumped the start and will get a drive-through), Piget and Bulnes. Behind, there is a contact between Monje and Correa, while Barba is 11th .
In lap 7, Ceccon attacks MacLeod in the last corner before the straight but spins and retires. Monje passes Villalba and Barba is already 5th, getting closer to Bulnes and passing him in lap 11. At the beginning of lap 12, Mcleod goes wide in the S before the straight and Fernandez who was close behind him cannot avoid hitting and climbing over the Briton's car, which his out of the race, while Fernandez loses his front wing and the safety-car gets in for two laps.
At the re-start, Piget flies away while Barba passes Fernandez. The Hache driver, with a damaged car, is blocking the pack, where fight is particularly fierce between Bulnes, Jammal (leading among Cup), Monje, Filgueira and Villalba, who gets off- track. In lap 17, following a wheel-to-wheel contact with Filgueira, Jamal takes off and rolls a number of times, but luckily the Lebanese driver is perfectly ok. Piget wins ahead of Barba, Bulnes and the two EmiliodeVillota drivers, Monje and Sistos, while Beltoise takes a brilliant win among the Cup ahead of Quesada and Filgueira.
