The Barba-MacLeod duel to continue in Monza
The Spaniard of Cedars has a 13-points lead on West-Tec's British driver RP Motorsport, with Fumanelli and Ceccon, determined to shine at home Jammal (Cedars) challenges the leadership of Filgueira (Drivex) in the Cup
Suspense is still reigning over the European F3 Open, at the eve of the sixth round of the year, which will bring the series to one of the temples of motorsports, the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. On the fast Italian track, Marco Barba and Callum MacLeod are expected to continue their fight for the title. The Spaniard and the Briton are separated by only 13 points in the overall standings, although Barba made an important psychological step forward in Brands Hatch, where he took his fifth win of the year, beating his rival at home and on a circuit he did not know.
This said, it is foreseeable that the duel will reach new heights in Italy and continue over in Jerez and until the very last round in Barcelona.
In Monza, other contenders are also expected to do well. This is the case of Toño Fernandez Da Silva, now a strong third in the standings after having given Hache Team the first win of the season at Brands Hatch, or of the two young drivers of EmiliodeVillota Motorsport, Fernando Monje and Juan Carlos Sistos, every day closer to first success, or of Jose Luis Abadin (Drivex), always among the front-runners although not very lucky so far.
Still, the ones that logically look forward to the Monza event are RP Motorsport and its drivers, David Fumanelli and Kevin Ceccon, as they will be racing at home. The team of Fabio Pampado is the only Italian squad in the series and its two drivers will be very motivated to show great things to their tifosi. RP also enters Venezuela's Biagio Bulnes and, as happened in Brands, it will be present with a fourth car (this time, an F308), for another Italian driver, Matteo Beretta.
Things look pretty open also in the Cup. Aaron Filgueira (Drivex) has seen his lead in the championship reduced significantly after Noel Jammal's double success at Brands. The Lebanese driver of Cedars Motorsport is now< only 6 points away from the Spaniard of Drivex, with two Hache Team drivers, Luis Villalba and Nil Montserrat, not far behind. The rest of the Cup field is composed of Brazil's Victor Correa and Macau's Ho Hon Keong, both with West-Tec, and Frenchman Vincent Beltoise (Top F3).
Monza races will rely on the usual and ample TV coverage, with live broadcasts in Spain (Canal + Deportes, Intereconomia TV and some regional channels), Italy (Nuvolari), the Middle East (OTV Lebanon), on top of delayed coverage throughout Europe (Motors TV) and Latin America (Fox Sports).
