Correa reveals himself with superb victory in Monza

West-Tec's Brazilian wins spectacular and exciting battle in Race 2 Barba, 2nd after the exclusion of Fernandez, extends championship lead

Packed with action and duels, Monza's second race has definitively revealed 20-year old Brazialian driver Victor Correa, who took a superb maiden win at the wheel of the F306 of West-Tec, after an exciting duel with Toño Fernãndez, who would lose his second position after the race when he got excluded for his involvement in two accidents. Third (and eventually, second), despite a drive-through, Marco Barba, who extends further his lead in the championship, given MacLeod's retirement. Correa, naturally, took also the laurels in the Cup, with Nil Montserrat and Macau's Ho-Hon Keong, third in his second appearance in the series.

first laps were really intense, with Bulnes and Correa sharing first row, but being passed by Toño Fernãnnadez at first braking. The Hache driver manages to build some minimal gap, while behind him the fight is fierce between Correa, Bulnes, Ceccon, Fumanelli and MacLeod. In lap 4, Barba is already ahead of MacLeod, who shortly after is touched and sent into as spin, just as Fumanelli and Filgueira. The Briton, though, is the only one who sees his race spoiled, as he will only make to the pits to retire.

In the meantime, Barba continues climbing through de field and getting closer to the top. In lap 7, he takes second from Correa and one lap later he passes Fernandez for the lead, initiating a beautiful duel, during which the two pass each other a couple of times. There is some chicane-cutting as well, which motivates the drive-through imposed on the championship and race leader.

Again first, Fernandez cannot resist the attacks of Correa, and the two start another great duel, allowing Ceccon, Bulnes, Monje and Sistos to rejoin them. Monje passes Bulnes and Ceccon flies out of the track in lap 14.

The last laps are thrilling, with Correa managing to resist the attacks of Fernandez and cross the line as the winner. The last emotion is the scary accident between Monje and Bulnes in the last lap, a few meters ahead of the Parabolica. The EmiliodeVillota driver spins on the grass in his fight with Fernandez and hits the Venezuelan when his control-less car goes back into track. Luckily, there is no personal damage and the benefits are for Barba, who inherits a useful third position.
