Magic Doornbos Flies and Wins at Spa!

(Belgium) --28/08/2004 -- Robert Doornbos, rookie in the FIA F3000 International Championship, will celebrate a spectacular result, today, thanks to a magic WIN on the Spa track, his first ever win in this series.

Starting from the first row (2nd position on the grid) besides his team mate and championship leader Vitantonio Liuzzi, the Dutch managed to get advantage at the second lap by passing Liuzzi when the safety car entered the pit (the race took place on rainy conditions). From this moment on Robert cemented his leading position increasing his advantage lap by lap despite the mandatory pit stop for the tyre change.

A victory (his first victory in FIA F3000) at Spa Francorchamps, on a wet track, with no mistakes, in front of the new F3000 Champion and other more experienced drivers, makes this result more important and prestigious. In the series of fast laps Robert clocked also the fastest lap of the race.

"This is for sure the happiest day of the season. I enjoyed a lot the race! Behind the safety car, during the first lap, I touch a little Tonio at Eau Rouge because I was very fast, then I passed him and I didn't look in the mirrors for the rest of the 22 laps. It is amazing how fast I was with my rain tyres on the wet track! With the last set of tyres I signed the fastest lap. I was told that after the first win it is ''easier'' to get good results and be highly motivated. Tonight me and my team will celebrate my win and Tonio: the 2004 FIA F3000 Champion!".

Next race: MONZA (Italy) 10-11/09/2004
