Javier, 'singin' in the rain!

This weekend the DAMS team raced in the seventh round of the 2010 Formula BMW Europe Championship, part of the Belgian Grand Prix meeting on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Javier Tarancon put on a brilliant performance in both races on one of the most demanding circuits in the world.

In qualifying, the Spanish driver set the third and second quickest times in changing weather conditions on a track whose grip level was very treacherous. In the first race, he snatched second place at the start, and then lost a position due to a slight mistake on a damp patch. He fought his way up to first place where he stayed until the chequered flag. The next day he put on another stunning display and finished second. This strong performance has put the Spanish driver in fifth place in the championship ratings with 161 points. If he can maintain the same level of competitiveness at Monza a finish in the top three is well within his grasp.

This weekend, the second car was allocated to British driver, Luciano Bacheta. It was a big challenge as it was his first time with the team, his first time in the car and his first time out on the circuit! He learned quickly and soon showed his speed. He was thirteenth and twelfth on the grid for races 1 and 2, and he set very competitive times finishing eleventh on Saturday. Unfortunately, he had a slight collision yesterday and had to retire.

The final round of the championship will take place on the high-speed Monza circuit on 10-12 September.

Javier Tarancon: "I'm very satisfied with my weekend and I'd like to thank the team for giving me a very quick motor car. We didn't fall into the many traps posed by the changing weather here at Spa and that makes my two podium finishes all the more satisfying. I'm aiming for third place in the championship even if it looks a big challenge with only two races to go."

Luciano Bacheta: "I learned a great deal this weekend. I was surprised to be competitive at certain moments of the race, and I set one of the fastest laps in Saturday's race. I'd like to thank DAMS for its professionalism and I hope to be able to work with the team again in the near future."
