Munich, 26th October 2010. Preparations for the 2011 Formula BMW Talent Cup are in full flow. The response to BMW Motorsport's new junior promotion programme has been extremely positive: to date, over 80 young drivers from 20 countries have applied to participate in the Talent Cup, for which 15 places are up for grabs. The talented youngsters who registered their interest in the "pre-registration" phase will get down to business this autumn: from 12th to 14th November 2010, the "Circuito Monteblanco" circuit near Seville will provide the setting for the scholarship course for the Formula BMW Talent Cup. There, the drivers will be able to demonstrate their ability in front of some prominent observers.

A week later, the decisive "Shoot Out" will be held at the Cartagena (ES) circuit. The winner will be rewarded with free entry in the 2011 Formula BMW Talent Cup. BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen and Sebastian Vettel, currently sitting in fourth place in the Formula One World Championship, will both spend a day in Cartagena.

"I am excited to see how the participants at the trials for the Formula BMW Talent Cup will perform," says BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "The drivers will receive a well-grounded education within the framework of our new promotion programme. The focus will be on the individual development of the participants. Theory and practical sessions will teach them everything they need to know at the start of a career in motorsport. The scholarship course is the first step on the way to the grand finale at the end of the 2011 season. BMW will finance the winner for the complete following season in a junior racing championship."

Vettel adds: "I still look back on by title in the 2004 Formula BMW season with fond memories. Back then the programme placed particular emphasis on the training and education of participants. The new Formula BMW Talent Cup comes in one step earlier and focuses even more on the training aspect: anyone coming through the ranks of the Formula BMW Talent Cup is well equipped for their first season of racing. I am looking forward to offering the participants some advice."

The many youngsters who have shown interest in the new BMW junior programme first take to the track in Monteblanco. All participants are newcomers to single-seater racing and are starting out on a level playing field. Experienced instructors first give the youngsters, aged 14 and above, the necessary theory before they head out onto the circuit for the first time. Whether changing gear, braking, racing line or driving physics: the first day of the course gives the participants an initial introduction to the basics of racing.

On the second and third days, the drivers can take their places in the Formula BMW FB02 racing car. Sessions behind a leading car, practice starts and a free practice session allow the juniors to familiarise themselves with the FB02 before they complete the decisive laps. Based on what the applicants have shown, the jury will then select up to 15 participants, who have qualified for a place in the 2011 Formula BMW Talent Cup.

At the "Shoot Out" in Cartagena, the drivers who qualified from the scholarship course will compete for a valuable prize: the talented junior who impresses the instructors most at the course from 22nd to 23rd November will take part in the 2011 Formula BMW Talent Cup free of charge. The price for the season to all the remaining candidates who qualified is 100,000 Euros.
