Motorsport Asia is very pleased to announce that they have secured a Title sponsor for the Formula Pacific Series. The deal is for the next three years, the 2011 to 2013 seasons inclusive.

The terms agreed between Motorsport Asia and the Title Sponsor will also include a name change of the Series to include the Title Sponsor's name.

"I am absolutely delighted to have secured this deal to continue the Championship at the same level as in previous years. Obviously with the withdrawal of BMW and the termination of the European Championship, the pressure was on. However, I fully believe that this Championship was great and a vital necessity for the sport in the Region and the development of future young talent. This deal and the strong support that we have been receiving from the Teams and Drivers makes the prospect of next season really exciting," said David Sonenscher, CEO of Motorsport Asia.

"Obviously everyone is waiting for the announcement of the Calendar and in fact the only thing holding that back is the some contractual formalities. Everything is agreed and I hope to have those signed off in the next couple of weeks so that we can make a public announcement of the Calendar. Frankly, it will not be much of a change from this year but we have one or two exciting new venues, so in actual fact it will be better." He added.

The name of the Title Sponsor and the new Championship will be announced at a grand launch event, which is being scheduled for the 3rd or 4th week of January. The exact details of which will be announced soon after the New Year.

Background

The Formula Pacific Series is the replacement series for the Formula BMW Pacific. Since July 2010, Motorsport Asia has put plans in place to continue the Series in an independent form.

The Series is a single seater series for talented young drivers to showcase their racing talent and to compete against other young up and coming race drivers on an International platform. Drivers as young as 15, are able to pit their skills on a level playing field.

Built by Mygale, the FB02 will be maintained in the 2011 season and Mygale have confirmed to continue to support the Series into the new season. The FB02 monocoque is made of carbon-fibre Kevlar which has been proven to be of the highest safety standards. The 140bhp, 1.2litre engine provides a maximum engine speed of 9,250rpm with a top speed of 230km/h. The FB02 provides a gradual yet powerful transition from karts to single seater, a suitable transition for the aspiring future Champions.

The fitness training program, formulated by FITRACE, will also be continued in the 2011 season, offering 3 'fitness scholarships' which will include all season fitness support and personalized training models.

There are minimal changes to the format of the Series and all existing Media and Television exposure will remain in place. The Teams, suppliers and those involved in the Series in the past have also confirmed their intention to participate in the 2011 season and to date 34 applications have been received with a few teams already starting their pre-season test programmes this December.
