Woodcliff Lake, NJ - January 19, 2005-- BMW of North America, LLC is pleased to announce the winners of the six 2005 Formula BMW USA Junior scholarships. The winners are Adrien Herberts, 15, of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada; Wade Van Hooser, 15, of Tulane, Calif.; Kevin LaCroix, 15, of St-Eustache, Quebec, Canada; Justin Moon, 16, of Shingle Springs, Calif.; Richard Philippe, 15, of Key Biscayne, Fla. and Reed Stevens, 19, of Palo Alto, Calif.

The six winners proved to be the cream of the crop of seventeen young drivers invited from two previous Formula BMW licensing schools to the 2005 scholarship "shoot-out". Held at the Formula BMW Racing Center at the "Circuit de la Communitat" in Valencia, Spain on January 12th and 13th the two- day program began with instruction and exercises. During free practice sessions instructors continued to provide feedback to the drivers to help improve their skill set. The course culminated with two sessions of evaluations where all drivers were scored by the BMW Motorsport instructors, which included BMW Touring Car works drivers Dirk Mueller and Joerg Mueller.

The six 2005 Juniors will be awarded $40,000 each towards participation in the 2005 Formula BMW USA Championship and automatic enrollment in Formula BMW's Education and Coaching Program.

"The Formula BMW Junior program is one more indicator of BMW's commitment to supporting young drivers," said Alex Schmuck, Formula BMW USA Manager. "In addition to the money each of these young drivers will receive, the skills they learn as part of Formula BMW's Education and Coaching Program will serve them well as they progress in their careers."

In 2005, Formula BMW USA drivers will race in support of Formula One, the American Le Mans Series, the Champ Car World Series, the Grand American Road Racing Association and the Indy Racing League. The season will begin at Laguna Seca Raceway on April 29 - May 1. As in 2004, Rounds 5 through 8 will be run in support of the Canadian and United States Grand Prix races on

June 10-12 and June 17-19. The final two Rounds of the 2005 Formula BMW USA Championship will be held at Infineon Raceway on Aug. 26-28 with the IRL.

Background:

Formula BMW is the world's leading entry-level class in Formula racing. In 2005 the series will be held in Germany, Britain, Asia and the USA. Up-and-coming drivers as young as 15 years of age are given the opportunity of entering motor racing with the high-tech, standard FB2 race car.

Since 2002, this racecar has been seen on the grid and has set standards particularly on the safety technology front. A single-seater propelled by a 140 bhp BMW motorcycle engine up to 140 miles per hour, it exceeds by far the safety requirements for its class. BMW Motorsport has developed the FORS Formula Rescue Seat especially for Formula BMW, and the HANS safety system is also mandatory.

In 2005, Formula BMW will be a support race at five different Formula One race weekends worldwide. Formula BMW offers a multifaceted Education and Coaching Program, as well as sponsorship for promising racing talents via the Junior Program. The best-known alumni of Formula BMW are Formula One drivers Ralf Schumacher, Christian Klien and Timo Glock.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: "Formula BMW offers talented young drivers more than just a car. In the Education and Coaching Program we have designed specially for them, they learn everything they need to know to hold their own in the big wide world of motor racing. Formula BMW has shot out of the blocks to become the top entry-level class for Formula racing worldwide."
