Scarperia – The first Ferrari Challenge Europe Trofeo Pirelli race run at Mugello today was closely contested and full of action. Winning the Trofeo Pirelli Pro and taking the overall victory was Austria’s Philipp Baron of the Octane 126 team. He has been the dominant force since Friday, setting the fastest time in free practice on the ups and downs of the Tuscan track, before taking pole in qualifying and leaving his rivals to scrap over second place in today’s race.
There was a strong showing from Daniele Di Amato who came second, despite the handicap of having to come from further back on the grid after winning Race 2 in Monza. The Motor Piacenza driver started from eighth, but soon carved his way past the Ferrari 458 Challenge EVO cars ahead of him to take the runner up slot. Third went to another Motor Piacenza driver, the Englishman Alex Martin.
As for the Trofeo Pirelli Am, Raffaele Giannoni won for Motor Piacenza ahead of two more Italians, David Gostner (Ineco-MP Racing) and Alessandro Vezzoni (Rossocorsa-Pellin Racing.) Now leading the classification is the Argentinian Ezequiel Perez Companc (Motor Piacenza,) who was sixth across the line today.
Not long to wait for the return leg, with Race 2 starting at 16.20 tomorrow.
