Level 5 Motorsports driver Jeffrey Segal has been busy this week preparing Boardwalk Ferrari for the upcoming Ferrari Challenge North America race at Circuit of the Americas. Segal, who was part of the Level 5 driver lineup that won the 2014 Rolex 24 At Daytona GTD class, also serves as a driver coach for the team’s customer program in the Ferrari Challenge series.

Earlier this month, Segal and the Boardwalk Ferrari team had the opportunity to test at Circuit of the Americas, experience that will prove invaluable in this weekend’s race.

“The test sessions that we conducted at COTA will be hugely beneficial,” Segal said. “We can be confident that our starting setups should provide the fast and consistent racecars that the drivers need to get up to speed in the short time available.

“The biggest challenge for us this weekend is that we are running as a support race for Formula One. This means that we have very little practice time prior to the race, so we don't have any margin for error. Of course, it's a great privilege to be able to race in front of the Formula One crowd, but there's a bit more pressure on everyone as well.”

Segal’s own racing experience at Circuit of the Americas is a valuable resource for the Boardwalk Ferrari team as well. In September, Segal competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship race at Circuit of the Americas, the six-hour Lone Star Le Mans.

“Every time you get behind the wheel, you're learning something,” Segal said. “Maybe you notice some nuance of the track, or you see a competitor doing something different than you, or even just making a mental note of something which didn't work well to try to avoid it the next time. To that end, especially with the tricky wet/dry variable conditions we had for the WEC race at COTA a month ago, I definitely feel like I gained a lot of useful information about the circuit.

“Of course, the challenge as a driver coach is to relay that information in a usable way and at the right time to be valuable to the other drivers on the team. This weekend, we will closely monitor the track conditions and put our experience to work to maximize our performance under those circumstances.”

The racing action kicks off on Saturday, November 1, with the first Ferrari Challenge race scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. ET. The second race will take place on Sunday, November 2, at 11:15 a.m. ET.
