Starting from fifth on the grid, Prinoth benefitted from a chaotic start to take the lead on the opening lap and pull away for a straightforward victory.

European Coppa Shell champion Jacques Duyver started from pole alongside Gautum Singhania, but the Indian driver soon made contact with Thomas Loefflad, who moved up from fourth to second at the first corner, removing both Loefflad and Duyver from victory contention.

Singhania was handed a drive-through penalty, and by the time he peeled into the pits, Prinoth was seven seconds clear at the head of the field. By the chequered flag, he had stretched his advantage to 17s.

The battle for second was resolved in favour of Fons Scheltema, who spent the opening half of the race with Rick Lovat in his mirrors before pulling clear in the latter stages.

After his penalty, Singhania carved his way back through the order to claim an impressive fourth place, passing Kriton Lendoudis on the final lap - albeit helped by a clash between Thomas Gostner and Christian Kinch a few laps previously.

Jin, Zekelman take class honours

Further down the order, both the North American and Asia-Pacific Coppa Shell battle were resolved in controversial style.

Tadakazu Kojima appeared to have the Asia-Pacific class win in the bag, but was handed a drive-through penalty for passing Manuela Gostner under yellow flags, handing honours to Xin Jin.
