Barcelona F2: Maini endures difficult weekend
Up-and-coming Indian driver Arjun Maini failed to score points in the Barcelona round of Formula 2 championship.
Fresh off from a breakthrough fifth place result in Azerbaijan, Maini arrived at Circuit de Catalunya - the venue of his maiden GP3 win - with high expectations.
However, the weekend began on a tricky note, with the Trident driver only managing the 16th fastest time in practice.
Qualifying showed little signs of improvement, leaving him 18th on the grid for the feature race.
But to Maini’s credit, he made up several positions to move up to 14th by lap 10
However, when a few spots of rain hit the track, he lost control of the car at turn 4 and slid into the barriers - bringing his race to an amateur end.
The DNF put him 16th on the grid for Sunday’s sprint race, leaving him with a mountain to climb once again.
He initially lost a place to Max Gunther, but eventually finished 13th after several drivers retired from the race.
With three of the 12 rounds run, Maini stands 14th in the championship with six points to his name.
