Campos “working together” with Merhi over F2 entry
Campos Racing has announced it's “working together” with ex-Formula 1 driver Roberto Merhi with the aim of fielding the Spaniard in the FIA F2 series this year.

Merhi, 25, is to drive in the three-day pre-season F2 test in Barcelona, joining Ralph Boschung, who had been confirmed as a Campos driver for 2017 earlier on Saturday.
A statement from Campos reads: “Campos Racing and Roberto Merhi are working together to confirm his presence in the new FIA Formula Two championship as soon as possible, as it is the right decision to relaunch his career.
“Ross Brawn, the new racing boss of Formula 1, stressed that F2 winners will step up to F1, so the renamed FIA Formula 2 championship will give him [Merhi] a big chance.”
Merhi started 13 grands prix for the now-defunct Manor F1 team in 2015, his best finish a 12th place at Silverstone.
A former Formula 3 champion, he raced in WEC's LMP2 class for Manor last year, taking a class podium at Spa-Francorchamps.
Back in 2011, Merhi tested F2's current car - the Dallara GP2/11 - with Arden in Barcelona.
If the Spaniard does go on to secure an F2 drive, it would not be an unprecedented event, as other drivers have stepped down to F2's predecessor series GP2 in the recent past.
GP2's 2008 champion Giorgio Pantano and 2011 champion Romain Grosjean both raced in Formula 1 prior to their respective title-winning campaigns.
