Canamasas, 28, has been a regular fixture on the GP2 grid in the past three-and-a-half years, his best finish in the standings being a 14th place with Trident in 2014.

The Catalan's two podiums in the category both came in Monaco, which also played host to his two other top-five finishes. Meanwhile, his best finish at his home venue is 13th.

At Carlin, Canamasas will partner rookie Marvin Kirchhofer, bringing the number of entries for the Barcelona round to 22.

His participation in the event will bring the number of teams he has raced for in GP2 to six.
