Deletraz, son of ex-F1 driver Jean-Denis, will partner Sweden's Gustav Malja in the Spanish team, which finished second in the GP2 standings this year.

The 19-year-old is part of both Renault's and BMW's junior programmes.

"We are pleased to announce that Louis is joining Racing Engineering for the 2017 season," said Racing Engineering boss Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon.

"Having closely followed his steps since his early years in karting, we are convinced that although 2017 will be his rookie season in GP2, he will quickly adapt to the championship.

"We first evaluated Louis on our simulator in 2015 and were in close contact with him during the 2016 season to have insight with his progress as a racing driver."

Deletraz had joined Renault's junior programme after becoming Formula Renault 2.0 NEC champion last year.

In 2016, he raced in the Formula V8 3.5 series with Fortec, taking two wins and narrowly missing out on the championship to Tom Dillmann.

He made his GP2 debut with Carlin in the season finale in Abu Dhabi, before going on to do all three days of the post-season test with Racing Engineering.

"GP2 is where I want to be in 2017 since after the strong season in Formula V8, it's the natural next step in my career," said Deletraz. "It's the final category before reaching Formula 1 - and getting to F1 is my primary goal.

"Racing Engineering are a good team and have produced some top results during the last five years. For me, there's no better option and I am very happy with the choice."

Racing Engineering is the second team to announce its full line-up for the 2017 edition of GP2 – and, like series champions Prema, the Spanish outfit is also opting for an all-new roster.

Norman Nato and Jordan King had driven for the team in 2016, finishing fifth and seventh respectively, with two race wins each.
