The GP2 Series 2008 Prize giving Ceremony and the Winning Attitudes Awards (WAA) will be dedicated to solidarity.
In less than a month, the 2008 GP2 Series season will draw to an end and a new champion will be crowned. With only two race weekends to go, the GP2 Series is getting ready for the end of the season ceremony which will take place after the last race of the championship in Monza.
The GP2 Series 2008 Prize Giving Ceremony featuring the 7th Annual Winning Attitudes Awards (WAA) Charity Evening will be held the 14th of September at 7:00pm at the exclusive Sporting Club Monza. This exciting event has become a classic season-closing celebration. Not only does it celebrate all the protagonists of yet another breathtaking season of motor racing, but it also praises mental strength, talent and team spirit, and at the same time it supports the Gonzalo Rodriguez Memorial Foundation (GRMF) and raises money for underprivileged children in Uruguay. This year, the GP2 drivers will be asked to express with a drawing or some words their feelings and views on world solidarity. The testimony featured on a huge canvas will be auctioned during the Prize Giving Ceremony.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Gonzalo Rodriguez Special Award will reward a GP2 member that best embodies the late Uruguayan driver's exceptional human qualities. The prize, an authentic replica of Maestro Pablo Atchugarry's magnificent marble piece - inspired by Gonzalo, will be presented by Bridgestone. Penny Whitaker, Charlie Whiting and Giorgio Pantano have been honoured with this prize in the first three editions.
Moreover, a Pre Event will be held at the GP2 Series Paddock on Thursday September 11th from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Several Formula One drivers, along with all the GP2 competitors, will gather in the GP2 Hospitality to sign on a huge canvas their support to the Gonzalo Rodriguez Memorial Foundation. The WAA nominees will be revealed, together with other surprises. During the short event, artist Bill Patterson will create a painting which will then be auctioned on the Sunday evening. A photo-call will be organised.
