The Rapax Team was back on-track at the start of this week for the last 4-day test session of the 2010 GP2 Main Series season, ending next Sunday. On the first two days, the 2010 winning GP2 team fielded 21-year-old Swiss driver Fabio Leimer, while the second car was shared by Indian Armaan Ebrahim, 20, who hit the track on Day 1, and 22-year-old Daniel Mancinelli, who made his series' debut on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, the test got a tough start for Leimer, who was stopped by an engine issue on Day 1. On Wednesday though, Fabio managed to rebound by hitting the top of the charts in both the AM and the PM session. The test run by Ebrahim enabled Rapax to meet a promising racer coming from an highly-valuable strategic market like India.
The team has been equally satisfied with how Mancinelli performed, as the young Italian completed all the scheduled work. His results in terms of laptimes have been conditioned by a mechanical problem that forced him to end his day early. The issue did not overshadow the great job done on his first run on a GP2 car.
The Rapax Team will keep testing next Saturday and Sunday, rounding out the 2010 track activity, as well as the current technical cycle of the 2008-2010 racecars and Bridgestone tires.
Daniel Mancinelli - "This test provided me with so many new experiences! First thing the car, that gave me an incredible feedback considering I was coming from a Formula 3. Lots of power, perfect braking and a lot of downforce. The only issue of a really special day for me has been an engine problem that prevented me from using my last set of new tires. I'm sure I would have improved my laptimes because the chemistry with the car and the track kept increasing lap after lap. I'm happy of this great chance I had, and I really enjoyed working with the team from the first moment. I dream and hope this experience will have some follow-up..."
Fabio Leimer - "The two days of testing I entered have been really different from each other. On Tuesday, I was slowed down by engine woes that prevented me from completing the work we scheduled. On Day 2 everything worked perfectly. I found a great feeling with the car straight out of the box, and the best laptime of the session came by itself, without pushing too hard. We did some tests we planned for the upcoming season, and I'm definitely happy of having hit the top of the charts despite not having had that goal in mind. On race conditions, the car is really good, while I think we can improve the qualifying trim even further."
