The official test was being held in Marrakesh, Morocco exclusively for drivers who have not held a Formula E race licence.
Driving for MS&AD Andretti, Bruno Spengler put up top-10 times in the morning session, setting the ninth fastest time with a 1:22.987. The Canadian was flying on his quick lap in the afternoon, but slowed dramatically in the middle sector with a technical problem, an event that caused a red flag.
Spengler did not complete laps with the full power of 200kW.
For the DTM veteran and BMW works driver, it was a first time behind the wheel of an open-wheel car since a long time.
“Last time I was in a single-seater was in 2004 in Formula 3, so it was a long time ago,” said Spengler.
“I have to say, I really enjoyed the drive. I was surprised by the power; you expect a lot of things when you've never driven. It was fun. It's a long learning process, so I still have a lot to learn about Formula E, but I enjoyed today. The first time I went off the pit-speed limiter and went flat on the power, it was a good kick, something different to what I am used to. I really liked it and it's a fun car to drive."
